Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings

You are probably familiar with dental fillings. Most of us have had one or more in our lifetime. They are a tried and tested treatment for filling tooth cavities.

What causes tooth cavities?

Tooth cavities are caused by food debris and acid that erodes the enamel of the teeth. Cavities often start in the small gaps between teeth or in the pits on top of the back molar teeth where food can get stuck or sit. This is why thoroughly brushing and flossing your teeth is so important.

What do dental fillings look like?

Gone are the days when tooth fillings had to have a metallic appearance (amalgam). You can now opt for fillings that match the natural shade of your teeth. In addition to looking natural, our fillings are designed for comfort and can be readily implemented for most tooth types.

If you have damaged teeth in particularly visible areas, our tooth-coloured fillings are a great solution. We also provide white filling for chipped and fragmented teeth.

What is the process for getting a dental filling?

Dental fillings can generally be done in one appointment with the following 3 step process:

  1. Your dentist will numb the area with a local anaesthetic
  2. He or She will thoroughly clean the cavity to remove the decay and ensure it is free of food
    debris
  3. The cavity is then filled in with a dental ceramic or composite resin

Can you replace my old metal fillings?

Yes! You can have your old fillings removed and replaced with modern ceramic or resin fillings that are more durable and safer than metal or amalgam fillings. Tooth-coloured fillings will wear just like your natural teeth do and you won’t have to be concerned about them breaking, corroding, leaking
or staining your teeth or gums.
